NaCCRA Town Square

Former employees

The basic policy is that current employees may not do side jobs for pay, and may not recieve gifts or gratuities without special permission. Thus, we have had employees who would walk a resident's dog and be paid for it with the consent of management. We have many outside contractors who perform services for residents such as computer service, installing window treatments, maintaining garden plots, and such. The building and fixtures do not belong to residents and would require authorization from management to have work done. So, for example, residents who want luxury bathroom fixtures would work with the facilities department to arrange that.

The local bank offers an excellent service for paying bills for those who need such services. The State of Pennsylvania has a body of law and regulation protecting seniors from predatory practices. Good Samaritans should inform themselves of such matters.

My CCRC has a policy that the resident must formally request and have approval from the CCRC management before anyone from outside can perform any services. The CCRC has a rate sheet for any additional services that are not already provided for maintenance and personal services the resident may want.

  1. Does your CCRC have a policy as to whether former employees can returnn to the property to either visit residents or to be paid to perform tasks to help individual residents?
  2. Does your CCRC have a policy related to hiring outside help to assist with non-health-related tasks such as driving, bill paying, downsizing, etc?
  3. Does your CCRC have a policy related to hiring outside help for health-related activities?
