Transitioning from Verizon to Cox

Our community left Comcast cable for Verizon Fios. We had and have an independent internet connection and a CISCO/Meraki WiFi system campus-wide. Our IT guys could never get the WiFi printers to connect reliably, and there were frequently instances of people unintentionally sending print jobs to the wrong printer. Despite the high speed and broad bandwidth capacity, viewers watching streams often see buffering on the Meraki system.

Verizon recently demanded that the community buy a package that included Fios Wi-Fi for all residents. So we now have Meraki for campus wide connectivity, and Verizon LANs in their apartments, all available at no added cost to the resident. Cell phone coverage is spotty, so I use WiFi calling and connect to the Meraki LAN with my phone. My computers and TV connect to Fios.

My Community, Vinson Hall in McLean VA, is entertaining moving from Verizon to Cox for its internet and TV. Verizon has provided TV access with their desktop box. They also are our main internet service provider to our campus firewall. We distribute to apartments via Wi-Fi and in house cable infrastructure.

Management has not been satisfied with Verizon's contract "negotiations" (not really a negotiation - take it or leave it with expanded contract duration). So, we are looking at a cut over to Cox.

Many residents have opted to pay additionally for a dedicated fiber to the apartment and their own router Wi-Fi system. This has allowed them to have security control of their Wi-Fi printers.

Are there any lessons learned for such a vendor transition?
