CARF - Why Successful Stable Communities Need Cert...

My guess is that as NaCCRA grows and becomes better know residents at Life Plan Communities will increasingly post about issues at their communities and CEOs, Executive Directors, Boards, etc. will want to use a certification - evaluation process, because they will realize they are in competition.

"We dropped CARF because we have a long waiting list and don't need it." This is an actual quote from the CEO of a prominent CCRC. His view assumes that his community is independent of all others, and that the marketplace recognizes differences in quality accurately. But, in truth, when things go badly in one community, it taints the whole concept of LifePlan/Continuing care. One way our communities uphold high standards and best practices is by supporting and participating in certification. When the best ones don't think they need it, the worst ones can more easily hide their blemishes.
